Maiden United è la creatura di Joey Bruers (basso della tribute band olandese Up The Irons).
Il progetto è cresciuto nel corso degli anni e adesso comprende molti talentuosi musicisti come Damian Wilson (voce- Threshold, Headspace), Ruud Jolie (chitarra - Within Temptation), Lee Morris (ex-Paradise Lost), and Huub van Loon (Dearworld). Insieme hanno realizzato tre album acustici riarrangiando pezzi degli Iron Maiden destando l'interesse dei Maiden fan di tutto il mondo. Ieri hanno suonato live al The Underworld di Londra insieme ad un ospite d'eccezione: Mr. Dennis Stratton.
La gente che piano piano ha affollato il club non conosceva fino in fondo cosa li apsettava. Aramti della vece di Damian, chitarre acustiche, batteria e tastiere Joey, Damian, Ruud, Huub, e Lee hanno dato vita ad un impressionante mix acustico della musica degli Iron Maiden con indubbio gusto: 'Strange World', '22 Acacia Avenue', '2 Minutes To Midnight', 'Revelations', 'Futureal'.
A questo punto un visibilmente nervoso Dennis Stratton è salito sul palco provocando in realtà il delirio della folla.
Dennis ha iniziato leggendo un messaggio di Steve Harris da Rio De Janeiro nel quale augurava una grandissima serata a tutti coloro che affollavano il The Underground.
Insieme hanno interpretato un set di canzoni degli Iron Maiden originariamente interpretate sia con Dennis ('Prowler', 'Charlotte The Harlot') che senza ('Children Of The Damned', 'The Trooper'). Damian e Dennis si sono dati il cambio al microfono ma l'apice lo abbiamo raggiunto con la grandiosa performance durante 'Remember Tomorrow' che ha chiuso la prima parte della performance di Dennis.
'Sun And Steel', 'The Evil That Men Do', e 'Die With Your Boots On' hanno cementato la fratellanza tra pubblico e band con un Damian Wilson che canta tra il parterre sfoggiando tutta la sua abilità da frontman.
Intanto un molto più rilassato Dennis Stratton intrattiene i fan prima dei bis, raccontando la storia di 'Spanish Den', ovvero un nuovo amico di Dennis e la sua banda di amici incontrati di recente in Spagna. Ma arriva il momento del bis sia per Dennis che per i Maiden United:'Wasted Years'.
Il potenziale di Dennis fu effettivamente sottostimato e non espresso al massimo nei Maiden degli anni 80. Lo abbiamo visto stasera e la fantastica risposta del pubblico lo sottolinea ancora di più e celebra a dovere la fantastica musica degli Iron Maiden.
Esperienza da ripetere ancora...e ancora...molto presto!!!

Maiden United are the creature of Joey Bruers (bass), from the Dutch Iron Maiden tribute band Up the Irons. The project grew up over the years and now features the talents of many respected musicians, whose names will certainly attract your attention: Damian Wilson (vocals - Threshold, Headspace), Ruud Jolie (guitar - Within Temptation), Lee Morris (ex-Paradise Lost), and Huub van Loon (Dearworld). They put together three albums of rearranged acoustic Iron Maiden songs, which interest Maiden fans worldwide. Yesterday they played at The Underworld in London, with a very special guest, Mr Dennis Stratton.

As people were getting in the club, they only knew part of what they should expect. Armed with Damian vocal folds, acoustic guitars, drums and keyboards Joey, Damian, Ruud, Huub, and Lee delivered an impressive blend of Maiden music reshuffled with sublime taste and outstanding musicianship. Hits from all Maiden eras were on hand - 'Strange World', '22 Acacia Avenue', '2 Minutes To Midnight', 'Revelations', 'Futureal'. When a visibly nervous Dennis Stratton went on stage, they indeed set the crowd on fire. Dennis started reading a text message from Rio De Janeiro, in which Mr. Steve Harris wished a great night at all those packing the Underworld.

Then they played a set of Maiden classics that were originally performed by Iron Maiden with ('Prowler', 'Charlotte The Harlot') and without Dennis ('Children Of The Damned', 'The Trooper'). Damian and Dennis brilliantly shared vocal duties on these tracks, but we really hadn't lived until we've heard the grandiose rendition of 'Remember Tomorrow' that closed Mr. Stratton first appearance on stage. 'Sun And Steel', 'The Evil That Men Do', and 'Die With Your Boots On' cemented the relationship between the crowd and the band, including Damian Wilson singing from the parterre, exhibiting all his frontman abilities. A far more relaxed Dennis Stratton chatted with the crowd before the encores telling the story of the 'Spanish Den', a new friend of Dennis and his gang of friends, recently met in Spain. It's time for an encore, which Maiden United and Dennis Stratton chose to be 'Wasted Years'. Dennis Stratton’s potential was indeed under-expressed in 1980’s Iron Maiden, there’s a lot and we’ve seen part of it tonight. An overwhelming response from the crowd marked this fabulastic celebration of the Iron Maiden music. "Do it again, do it again, do it again... soon!”.

Maiden United will be playing Sutton/Ashfield, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Wolverhampton this week.
