Abbiamo già pubblicato una nostra prima recensione di “Senjutsu”, ma abbiamo voluto spingerci un po’ oltre. Abbiamo chiamato in causa un po’ di Scienza, consapevoli che la musica sia innanzitutto emozione, trasporto e passione. Abbiamo già letto di tutto e il contrario di tutto su ‘The Writing On The Wall’ e ‘Stratego’ prima, sugli altri brani del disco poi. Abbiamo visto strillare al miracolo e alla vergogna nello spazio di pochi like e pochi secondi. Insomma, abbiamo chiamato in causa la Scienza dicevamo… Abbiamo scavato tra i nostri libri di Acustica e abbiamo voluto impegnare per qualche ora i nostri computer. Sono stati messi a dura prova, ma alla fine si sono voluti piegare al nostro volere. Volevamo capire come si incastonava “Senjutsu” nella discografia degli Iron Maiden. Se, come qualcuno ha detto, si stagliasse come il più distintivo dei dischi dei Maiden, o se, come la maggior parte ha scritto, viva nella scia degli album post-reunion. Il grafico che vedete in questo post è una nostra creazione. Alle righe più chiare corrisponde una maggiore similarità acustica tra un album e un altro (il suono delle loro canzoni è più simile nella media), mentre dove i colori sono più scuri e le linee più sottili, i pezzi di quell’album, si assomigliano mediamente di meno. Coloro che sostengono come “Senjutsu” sia musicalmente nella scia degli album che la band ha sfornato nel nuovo millennio parrebbero aver ragione, o almeno, questa analisi consolida la loro ipotesi. Non è l’unica evidenza che emerge dalla nostra ‘trovata’, “Powerslave”, “Somewhere in Time” e “No Prayer For The Dying” mostrano livelli di similarità alti, così come accade per “The X Factor” e “Virtual XI”, e per “Killers” e “The Number Of The Beast”. È altrettanto interessante notare come “Iron Maiden” e “Seventh Son…” siano gli episodi più periferici, quelli cioè che risultano caratterizzati dai brani più distintivi.

We have already published our first review of 'Senjutsu', but we wanted to go a little further. We called in some Science, aware that music is first and foremost emotion, transport and passion. We have already read everything and the opposite of everything about 'The Writing On The Wall' and 'Stratego' first, and then about the other tracks on the album. We've seen people screaming about miracles and shame in the space of a few likes and a few seconds. In short, we have called upon Science, we said... We have dug into our Acoustics books, and we wanted to put our computers to the test for a few hours. In the end, they bent to our will. We wanted to see how "Senjutsu" fit into the Iron Maiden discography. Whether, as some have said, it stood out as the most distinctive of Maiden albums, or whether, as most have written, it lives on in the wake of the post-reunion albums. The graph you see in this post is our own creation. The lighter lines correspond to a greater acoustic similarity between one album and another (the sound of their songs is more similar on average), while the colours are darker. The lines are thinner, the songs from that album, on average, are less similar. Those who argue that 'Senjutsu' is musically in the vein of the albums the band has churned out in the new millennium would seem to be right, or at least, this analysis consolidates their hypothesis. This is not the only evidence that emerges from our work, "Powerslave", "Somewhere in Time" and "No Prayer For The Dying" show high levels of similarity, as do "The X Factor" and "Virtual XI", and "Killers" and "The Number Of The Beast". It is also interesting to note that "Iron Maiden" and "Seventh Son..." are the episodes with the most distinctive tracks.
